Fancy trying airgun shooting but not sure where to start? At Crackshot Air Gun Centre & Range in Newton Abbot, Devon, you do not need previous shooting experience to visit our ranges. We’ll explain the safety rules, introduce you to the equipment and talk you through getting started.
You do not need to know all the terms before you arrive. Questions are welcome — including the ones you think might be obvious.
Your first step is a conversation
Perhaps you have been meaning to try shooting for a while. Perhaps a friend has suggested a visit, but you are wondering whether everyone else will know more than you.
Simply tell us: “I’ve never done this before.”
That helps our team understand where you are starting from. You can explain what you would like to try, ask what a session involves and get friendly help with choosing your first range experience.
What happens on your first range visit?
Your visit starts with a safety briefing and an introduction to the equipment. We explain the range rules and how to handle the equipment safely before you begin.
If an instruction is unfamiliar, or you would like something explained again, please ask. You are not expected to arrive already knowing how everything works.
The aim is to help you understand what you are doing, feel comfortable asking for help and enjoy your session.

Do you need your own equipment?
No. Hire equipment and pellets are included in the range price, so you can give shooting a go without buying your own kit first.
If you are unsure what is included or what to bring, speak to us before your visit. We will talk you through it.
Which range should you try?
Crackshot has three indoor range experiences: Air Rifle, Air Pistol and the Simway Hunt big-screen simulator.
If you are not sure which to choose, tell us what appeals to you and whether you are visiting on your own, with friends or as a family. We can explain the differences and help you decide where to start.
You do not need to choose based on technical terms you have never heard before.
There is no need to feel embarrassed about asking
“What happens when I arrive?”
“Will someone explain the equipment?”
“Can I come if I have never held an air rifle?”
These are sensible questions. Asking them helps us make your first visit clearer and more comfortable.
Whether you are speaking to Eric or another member of the team, you can expect a friendly conversation and explanations you can follow. You do not have to work it all out on your own.
